must haves and non essential foods: topchart
What kinds of food is a must have often or always (5 stars) and totally unnecessary (1 star) in the pantry, fridge or freezer (well and other places you keep food).
Can you live without onions? Do you always have some salmon in your fridge ready to go and is coriander something you would never let into your kitchen?
Please add foods you can think of if you can't find them in the list

I'd say maybe salt and pepper would arguably be the most essential things when it comes to cooking.
This is totally relevant to me right now since I am going through the kitchen renovation, I had to think hard about what is essential to have on the shelves of my little book shelf for the next few weeks and put the rest in storage.
Currently, I have salt, pepper, hungarian paprikas, --- ok who am I kidding, I took out the whole drawer of spices and put them on the bottom shelf of the book shelf lol. My boyfriend was like can't you just pick the ones we use the most? I was like I use all of them!
Other essential stuff I grabbed, brown rice, various pastas, flour, coffee, salsa, cereal, oats, tomato cans, various cans of beans, bulgar, buckwheat, quinoa, and green and red lentils. And also, sugar, veggie stock cubes, and various nuts and seeds.
